Presales Manager (Maternity Cover)

The Role

The CAE Presales department is a thriving and ever-growing environment, providing a technical presales service to support the sales team in customer engagements. The purpose of which is to become a trusted advisor who designs and builds technical solutions and projects for the delivery of Professional Services for IT Networks, Infrastructure and Systems. The Presales team sits within a wider Professional Services department, which encompasses an expert field-based technical team covering Cisco Networking and Security, DELL Data Centre and Microsoft Cloud in a fast paced and reactive environment where cross departmental collaboration is key.

As Presales Manager, the role includes the line management of a team of highly skilled Architects, you will take Operational responsibility for the team as well as general team wellbeing and social event planning.

You will take total accountability for planning, structuring, leadership, financial management, process and procedures, inductions, quality, working with the Bid Management team on supporting large ITT responses and large corporate bids. There will be extensive input into the team, and you will be expected to be an evangelist for the team across the wider business driving change of process and procedures.

This role will be homebased, but you will be required to attend CAE’s head office on a regular basis for team meetings and training and UK-wide customer sites as required.

What you will be doing?

Operational and people management including the but not limited to:

  • General day to day support for the individual members of the team as required.
  • Recruitment (following a defined and structured process).
  • Onboarding new starters and providing ongoing support, this includes Presales overview presentations for new starters in other departments.
  • Dedicated 1:1’s.
  • Management and approvals of requests in internal portals such as holiday and expenses.
  • Personal Development reviews and follow ups.
  • Probation reviews and follow ups.
  • Stakeholder in Bid Qualification process for bids and tenders, responsible for Presales representation to qualify in or out and work with the teams to allocate resource and/or prioritise workload.
  • Gaining Feedback for the team.
  • Hosting and presenting Team update meetings; ownership of Agenda to share Business updates and / or specific knowledge share topics, sharing successes and challenges, coordination of updates from other key resources or department heads (these are regular remote sessions as well as quarterly team meetings).
  • Working closely with departments such as Sales, Sales Operations, Strategic Technical direction team, Professional Services, Project Management, Bid Management, Customer Success and Transformation to share updates and/or improve communications and processes between teams.
  • Building relationships and communicating with Head of Professional Services and Technical Services Director.
  • Attending and presenting at Monthly manager meetings.
  • Identifying and owning improvement projects.
  • Identifying and delegating tasks and projects to Presales Coordinator.
  • Work closely with the coordinator and PS Admin Manager to monitor quality of information for presales requests and ensuring data is recorded accurately.
  • Have a full understanding of the Management Information reporting and be able to review, investigate, correct, feedback, amend on issues or challenges.
  • Support the Strategic Technical direction team in executing technical strategy by supporting and coordinating activities such as training, vendor and internal update sessions, onboarding of new service/solution propositions including developing processes to support them.
  • Coordinating and supporting internal handovers (i.e., A/L cover etc).
  • Have an awareness of key opportunities and workload of the team, provide support to re-prioritise or re-allocate as and when required.
  • Act as an Escalation point of contact.
  • Responsible for team responses to feedback surveys, presenting and discussing results with the team to identify risks, issues, successes and improvements.

Skills/Competencies:

As a Pre-Sales Manager, you will need to be outgoing, highly organised, disciplined, and adaptable with excellent communication skills. You must be an energetic team player who is able to multitask and prioritise. Your work will be driven by a customer services mentality and will rely on the ability to build strong working relationships with our technical and sales teams.

This role would suit a person with experience working in a team within a fast-moving office environment and a process driven management and administrative role, where cross-departmental collaboration has been central to the work.

What is needed?

  • Have an advanced command of all MS Office applications
  • Professional at all times with exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to clearly articulate messages and present to a variety of audiences
  • previous experience running a fast-paced reseller presales environment or equivalent transferable skills.
  • Organised and methodical with the ability to be flexible, adaptable and work well under pressure; able to work in ambiguous situations.
  • Be able to prioritise multiple projects and work to deadlines
  • Experience interacting with stakeholders courteously and efficiently to provide information and resolve problems
  • Previous experience within an IT services environment with a high-level understanding of IT technology and ideally has experience in an IT infrastructure reseller/solution provider.
  • Understanding of Cisco partnership
  • Demonstrate the ability to learn and use different in-house bespoke software
